Our Process

We begin our design process by meeting with you and carefully listening to your needs and expectations. In this 90 minute consultation it is our pleasure to thoroughly discuss your project ideas, budget considerations, and time frame.

Clients receive sample boards, color charts, and scale drawings (contingent upon the scope of their project) after a contractual agreement has been established. When it comes to your understanding of, and concurrence with, our design plans we are exceptionally complete and attentive.

For larger commercial and more involved projects, we create scale models along with the full color design presentation; a cost which proceeds a formal bid for the entire project. We do this in stages to ensure clarity and support for your vision.

We do our best to ensure timely satisfaction. Our facilitation of each project (a hands-on approach) includes constant attention to detail and expert trouble shooting. Before, during, and after an installation we are accessible and responsive to your questions. We believe in service and commitment to our client’s vision. Your happiness is our best recommendation!

Combining the best of art and science, aesthetics and practicality, form and function, MC2 is your answer for energetic new design in a new millennium.

Our philosophy

It is our greatest joy and challenge to serve others aesthetically. We believe that beauty and harmony are as essential to each human spirit as air and water are to our bodies. In order to effectively co-create with others in community, for a healthier future, we have chosen the genius loci (spirit of place) as our medium for change.

Our use of green products and recycled materials is also an important way that we create with a view to the future. Integrity coupled with imagination is the essence of our business. Whenever and wherever possible, we are committed to using green products and services for our design applications. It is our preference to use recycled and natural materials (see our accessories page) and low toxicity paints, clays and stains. We support sustainable building, landscaping, and the protection of our precious environment.

Salvador Dali Exhibit – Delsol House

Our wide range of transformative skills made us the clear choice for this set of projects. Finish work, art history, construction knowledge, display and archiving, cabinet/podium design, and bookbinding all came into play to bring this multi-layered installation to fruition. Fine art display is truly The Science of Design – from concept to completion each meticulous detail counts; precious care must be taken to preserve the work's archival integrity. Functionality is the key to optimal viewing.

Exhibition Coordination

“It was a pleasure to have Martha Channer work with me as co-coordinator for the Abstract Rhythms exhibition in April 2007. I chose Martha because I had recently heard her present an excellent gallery talk demonstrating her knowledge of abstract art. As co-coordinator Martha helped with all aspects of exhibition development including assisting the juror in the selection process, exhibition design and installation, and having her painting featured on the exhibition postcard. An installation piece by Martha, along with sculptor Craig Mitchell, was included in the exhibition.

La Pensione Hotel

This hospitality venue, in San Diego’s historic "little Italy", needed a unique and memorable design solution for a stark and uninviting courtyard. Our design was chosen based on it’s originality and it’s historical and thematic relevance. The concept, "Christo meets Giotto", (where modern architecture meets pre-renaissance Florentine design) has an international old world/new world appeal that is just right for this hotel’s well-traveled and eclectic patrons. We were on view during the installation and received glowing praise during our encounters with people from around the world.

Architectural and Interior space planning

"It has been our pleasure to retain the MC2 Design team on several projects that required unique creativity and artistic capabilities. Our projects are created for those clients that have a desire for the new and unusual. MC2 has consistently executed these commissions with a such degree of detail that BVM has won awards for the projects that they have participated in. I confidently kudize them for outstanding concern and sensitivity to both the architectural design and the interior design plan."

Classical Residence

The client’s vision was to create a classical and sophisticated environment that supported and enriched their extensive art, artifacts, and antiques collections. The circa 1980’s style entry hall of this large, Poway, Ca. house, along with the living and dining rooms, was bland and unimaginative. In tandem with designers Joann Succi and Lori Graham, we designed a complete décor renovation that transformed the look and style of this house entirely.

"I have completed several design projects that have incorporated the skill and talents of the MC2 Design group. I have found that they have been conscientious and that they are good communicators and listeners, and have therefore interpreted and added to my design ideas in very effective ways. My experience with them has been very productive and has benefited us both. They are definitely an asset to our field.”

Infusions Tea House

Businesses change hands; often this requires new design elements to accommodate expansion and fresh marketing ideas. This project was an opportunity to combine our custom accessory design with product display, signage, and color concepts. Asian-modern, the over-all design theme for the tea house, was carefully maintained along with fresh elements of original and naturalistic styling.

Infusions Tea House

“We really enjoyed working with both of you on our tea house. The new shelving and signage has been an especially helpful sales tool. It’s been great to add a personal touch to the space (along with our new products) and at the same time keep the wonderful look and feel that this place has always been known for. We appreciate your help and know-how”.

Fine Art Installation

This ecological and conceptual statement/installation was the perfect venue for re-cycled materials and for our commitment to sustainable art and design. We were awarded the show at The Arts Council Of Sonoma County as a result of our inspirational concept and also for the visual transformation of the entire gallery space into a new viewpoint; a spatial restructuring of the room, but without any actual reconstruction. This complete transformation, entitled Interior/Exterior New perspectives on landscape, depicted the inner landscape of imagination as it relates to the natural world and the man-made world combined. As a public and community project we were able to affect people in a profound and positive way.

The Arts Council of Sonoma County

"Channer and Mitchell contributed to all aspects of this installation and  exhibit; from postcard design, to press releases, to acquiring the sponsor for an additional reception. They were hands-on and available for all publicity surrounding the event and paid close attention to detail in every aspect that they were involved in. Channer and Mitchell are a force to be reckoned with and bring a lot to the table. The Arts Council Of Sonoma County was delighted to have them as part of our 2007 schedule."

Color and Finish Design

Color and finish design is a close collaboration between the client and the designer. All aspects of spatial design require the client’s participation, but color is especially personal and is the key to successful ambiance in any environment. We listen carefully to preferences and/or color specifics that will enhance and compliment, and we create unusual, sophisticated color schemes that will visually brand a commercial space or simply stimulate feelings of comfort, elegance, and ease at home or for a business. Interior or exterior, we are known for our effective palettes, and our seamless delivery.

“Martha is a talented artist and has an extraordinary sense of color design. If you or your client needs help selecting colors for a room or a whole house, you should try Martha. She is bright and easy to work with and your clients will be very happy with the results. I think two hours of color consultation time makes a wonderful gift and/or a very effective listing tool."
